vacating the premises

the begger's daughter always wanted a china doll. every year on her birthday she wished on the brightest star in the sky that one day she would get a china doll of her very own. each morning of her birthday;; year after year, she woke up to a piece of candy wrapped in newspaper at the foot of her bed. this went on for as long as she could remember. with dirty hands & hungry eyes she would crack the candy in half with her teeth & give the bigger piece to her little brother.

in the ally she was sifting through garbage cans looking for food scraps, bottles, cans . . . at the bottom of one she found it. she found her china doll. she loved her, love at first sight, all she ever wanted. her wishes all came true at once.

next morning;; sunrise;; mommy stumbles in drunk;; knocks brother & sister onto the cold floor;; china doll slips from the girls hands.

broken pieces now. broken pieces.
i am the china doll.

[[I will see you all in a week when I get back from vacation. I'll be missing & loving you all.]]
